MADRID - PARKS & GARDENS
JARDÍN BOTÁNICO:
The Botanical Gardens entrance is in the Glorieta de Murillo just
beside the Prado Museum. The gardens were created by the orders of
Charles III and contain over 30.000 different species of trees and
plants collected from different parts of the world. The layout is
imposing with attractive tree lined avenues dividing the sections.
Open from 10.00 Hrs to 20.00 Hrs daily. - (

PARQUE DEL RETIRO:
The "Parque del Retiro" is an impressive park of 130 Hectares right
in the centre of the City. There are several accesses and at the
weekend you will encounter much of the population of Madrid enjoying
the freedom created by it size. There is the boating lake with its
cafes, and
there are two locations that mount occasional art
exhibitions. These two buildings are the "Palacio de Veláquez" and
the "Palacio de Cristal". - (

CASA DE CAMPO:
To the west of the City of Madrid and located on the right bank of
the Manzanares River there is the "Casa de Campo" which is a large
park with an area covering about 1.700 Hectares. Boats are available
for a row on its artificial lake. Here there are also tennis courts
for hire and swimming pools depending on the visitor’s interest. For
families there is always both the Zoo and the "Parque de
Atracciones" which is a large amusement park.
PARQUE QUINTA FUENTE DEL BERRO:
A small, quiet park crisscrossed by paved pathways and dotted with
fountains and flowers beds.
ROSALES AND THE PARQUE DEL OESTE:
Also On the Western side of Madrid bordering the River Manzanares
there are two extensive parks named "Rosales" and the "Parque del
Oeste". These are a very suitable for children due to their spacious
lawns and many shady trees with sandy dividing paths.
The
large rose garden is the site for the annual Rose Exhibition of
international fame. |
